Matt White is a 30-year-old musician who met his hero in his life. The hero comes as a 16-year-old boy named Chauncy Black.
Matt met Chauncy while he was buying some groceries at a supermarket.
It was when the teen offered his help to carry his groceries to his car in exchange for some donuts.
“The look on his face was kind of broken. He looked hungry. I just thought to myself, if I was his age, I don’t think I could go up to someone and ask them for food,” – says Matt
Matt then proceeded into buying Chauncy his groceries and gave him a ride to his home.
What he saw there broke his heart and made him share the unbelievable story of this little hero on his Facebook page.
Matt saw the poor conditions Chauncy and his disabled mother Barbara live in. Their life turned even tougher when they were robbed and left with nothing else just a couch and some lamps.
Both of them were sleeping on mat pads made from sleeping bags, and their fridge was empty.
Through his Facebook post, Matt wanted to ask all friends and family to give this little hero a chance for a better life by giving him a job.
And this is when the good people started showing up.
The post and heartbreaking story got a whole community up to help Chauncy and his mother
Matt started a GoFundMe account to raise $250 to buy a lawnmower so the teen could earn money for living
Within 11 days, the account raised over $223,000.
“We will have all the funds and resources we need to secure Chauncy and his mom for the rest of their lives,” says Matt.
Within hours of the Facebook post, strangers started bringing clothes, food, and toiletries.
They lived in a part of the city filled with crime and violence. Now, they live in a safer neighborhood.
They received gift cards for a local grocery store
There are even strangers coming to meet this boy
This hero has been through a lot. But, he is still a kid who wants to live a normal life
Wow. What a story.
